What the program is

Many people with persistent pain have been through years of appointments and treatments, improved somewhat, plateaued, and eventually been told to live with it. How you live with it is exactly what modern pain science has learned the most about. Chronic pain can be managed and worked around, and function can improve.

This program teaches those methods in a structured way.

Graded activity

Movement is central to managing most chronic pain. The program teaches you to start from a pain-stable baseline and progress gradually, with pacing rather than pushing.

Who teaches it

The program is taught by Lisa Jasper, PT, PhD. She has practiced physiotherapy since 1995, much of it with chronic pain patients in multidisciplinary teams. At the University of Alberta she coordinates the Certificate in Pain Management and teaches graduate courses on the multidimensional nature of pain and the management of clinical pain conditions. Her master’s research examined chronic pain mechanisms, and her published work spans pain, arthritis, and recovery after joint replacement.
